Former AUSA and FBI Crypto Pioneer Ali Comolli Joins TRM Labs to Expand Training and Capacity Building Programs for Public Sector Agencies

Washington, D.C., August 2025 TRM Labs, the leader in blockchain intelligence, today announced that Ali Comolli — one of the US government’s earliest and most respected virtual currency experts — has joined the firm as Global Capacity Building Lead. In this role, Comolli will spearhead TRM’s global law enforcement training, public sector collaboration, and capacity-building efforts to help customers in law enforcement, defense, and national security — as well as international and public-private partners — to combat crypto-enabled crime worldwide.

Comolli brings nearly a decade and a half of federal service to TRM, most recently serving as an Assistant United States Attorney and Digital Asset Coordinator for the Southern District of Florida, where she prosecuted a wide range of cases including insider trading, money laundering, cyber-enabled fraud, and complex financial crime. Prior to her work as a prosecutor, she spent nine years at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where she served as one of the agency’s earliest subject matter experts in virtual currency and founded the FBI’s Virtual Currency Response Team — an elite unit tasked with supporting the Bureau’s most sophisticated crypto investigations.

Over the course of her career, Comolli was a leader in shaping US law enforcement’s approach to digital asset crime. She advised agents and prosecutors nationwide, developed the FBI’s first virtual currency curriculum, and led teams that seized hundreds of millions of dollars in illicit proceeds. Her investigations spanned darknet markets, nation-state actors, and transnational laundering infrastructure, shaping how US law enforcement combats financial crime in the digital age.

“Ali worked on some of the FBI’s most complex and high-impact cryptocurrency investigations,” said Taylor Windemuth, Head of TRM Academy. “She’s a pioneer in this space — translating emerging threats into investigative action — and helped build the frameworks that law enforcement agencies around the world now rely on. We’re thrilled to have her bring that experience to TRM as we support our partners globally.”

TRM Academy offers the industry’s most trusted blockchain investigations training — purpose-built for teams on the front lines of crypto compliance, investigations, and national security. Developed by leading investigators and analysts at TRM, TRM Academy courses blend technical rigor with real-world relevance, ensuring learners not only understand blockchain fundamentals but can apply them in practice. At TRM, Comolli will lead efforts to scale TRM Academy’s technical training, typology development, and operational collaboration with law enforcement, regulators, and national security stakeholders across jurisdictions. She will also serve as a key advisor on TRM’s public sector initiatives.

“I’ve spent my career building complex investigations, driving strategy that lasts, and equipping law enforcement to tackle digital threats with clarity and confidence,” said Comolli. “At TRM Labs, I’m excited to join a team that shares my mission: empowering investigators and prosecutors to disrupt sophisticated, technology-enabled crime with the tools, data, and expertise needed to protect the global financial system.”

Comolli joins a growing team of former law enforcement and national security officials at TRM Labs working to detect, investigate, and prevent illicit activity involving digital assets.
