Former KNPA Cybercrime Investigator So Yeon Jeong Joins TRM Labs’ Global Investigations Team

July 10, 2025 — Seoul, Korea — TRM Labs, the leading provider of blockchain intelligence solutions, today announced that So Yeon Jeong, a veteran cybercrime investigator with the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), has joined the company’s global investigations team.

So Yeon brings more than eight years of law enforcement experience, most recently serving as Senior Inspector in the KNPA’s Cyber Terrorism Response Division. Over the course of her career, she has led high-impact investigations into ransomware groups, hacking incidents, and data breaches, and has collaborated with global partners on major operations. She played a key role in coordinated actions with Europol and Interpol, including the takedown of affiliates linked to the Sodinokibi/REvil ransomware group.

“So Yeon brings a rare combination of elite cyber investigative experience, global collaboration, and technical expertise,” said Chris Janczewski, head of global investigations at TRM Labs. “Her work in tracing ransomware proceeds, building complex cases, and supporting international law enforcement partners makes her an incredible asset to our team — and to our mission to disrupt illicit activity in the digital asset space.”

In addition to her operational experience, So Yeon has earned top honors at global cybersecurity competitions, including 1st Prize at the 2024 International White Hat Conference and 2nd Prize at the International Digital Forensics Challenge in Hong Kong. She has also served as a lecturer and trainer on ransomware investigations, cryptocurrency tracing, and international legal cooperation, helping build cybercrime capacity across law enforcement agencies in Asia and beyond.

So Yeon joins TRM’s growing global investigations team, composed of former agents and analysts from the FBI, IRS-CI, HSI, DOJ, DEA, US Secret Service, INTERPOL, Australian Federal Police, UK’s National Crime Agency, Brazilian Federal Police, Singapore Police Force, and Europol. The team supports active investigations into illicit finance, cybercrime, fraud, and national security threats across jurisdictions and around the world.

서울, 대한민국 — 2025년 7월 10일 — 글로벌 블록체인 정보·분석 기업인 TRM Labs는 아시아 지역 법집행기관과의 협력을 강화하기 위해, 대한민국 경찰청 사이버테러대응과에서 8년간 사이버 테러 사건 수사를 담당했던 정소연 경감을 아시아 전문 조사 총괄로 선임했다고 밝혔다.

정 경감은 재직 기간 중 Sodinokibi/REvil 랜섬웨어 관련 유포자 검거를 비롯해 인터폴(Interpol), 유로폴(Europol)과의 국제 공조 수사를 주도한 바 있으며, 가상자산을 활용한 사이버 범죄, 자금세탁, 테러자금 추적 분야에서 풍부한 수사 경험을 보유하고 있다.

이번 인사는 아시아 내 가상자산 관련 사이버 위협의 증가에 대응하고, 국제적 협력을 강화하기 위한 TRM Labs의 전략의 일환으로 이뤄졌다. 특히 2025년 2월 발생한 바이비트 해킹 사건 이후 북한이 관련된 것으로 지목된 가상자산 범죄는 2024년 기준 약 8억 달러, 전체 가상자산 도난의 35%를 차지하며, 아시아 전체 사이버 범죄보다 5배나 많은 수치를 기록하고 있다.
