Jordanian National Arrested In Spain For Sending 200,000 Euros in Cryptocurrencies to the Islamic State

This week, the Information Service of the Spanish Civil Guard arrested a Jordanian national with a Spanish passport for activity related to terrorist financing.

According to reports, the man, a computer engineer, is alleged to have sent almost 200,000 Euros worth of cryptocurrency to various ISIS terror financing campaigns. TRM Labs is proud to support the Information Service of the Civil Guard in its mission to stop terrorist financiers from using cryptocurrencies to send and receive funds.

The alleged terrorist financier appears to have used USDT on the Tron blockchain, which is consistent with other terrorism financing campaigns that TRM Labs has been tracking over the last two years.

Law enforcement agencies around the world have increased their focus on cryptocurrency fundraising for terrorism, with recent disruptions in the United States, Canada, Israel, South Korea, Tajikistan, and now Spain. The FBI and Europol supported this investigation. TRM Labs is proud to support these law enforcement efforts to identify and disrupt these fundraising campaigns.
