June 2025 Product Highlights: Upgrades For Expanded Indirect Exposure and More

At TRM Labs, we’re constantly evolving our platform to help investigators, compliance teams, and intelligence professionals stay ahead of crypto-related risk. This month’s updates deliver even more transparency, flexibility, and speed — from expanded indirect exposure detection across 36 blockchains to deeper context in Wallet Screening. Here’s a closer look at what’s new.

TRM Wallet Screening API: More insights, same fast speed

Wallet Screening API allows organizations to instantly assess the risk of any crypto wallet by checking it against sanctions lists, known illicit activity, and exposure to high-risk entities. It provides real-time risk scores, labels, and attribution data, enabling compliance teams to automate screening, block suspicious transactions, and meet regulatory requirements. Wallet Screening API now returns more detailed information per address while keeping sub-300 millisecond response times. Here’s a closer look at what’s new:

  • Risk volume percent: Quantify how much of a wallet’s volume is associated with high-risk counterparties — a clearer signal of exposure.
  • Transaction counts: Identify unusual behavior with total, inbound, and outbound transaction counts — even when transaction volume is low.
  • VASP attribution: Determine if an address belongs to a known Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP), such as an exchange.
  • Highest risk score: Observe an address’s highest observed risk score, even if its current score is lower.
  • Screening timestamp: Filter on alerts within a time range to focus on relevant risk results.

These insights provide more context for compliance teams to understand risk exposure and better protect their organizations from bad actors.

Cross-chain risk detection now covers 36 blockchains

To evade detection, criminals often move illicit funds across multiple blockchains, making it harder to track their activity using traditional tracing methods. TRM continuously has been the first to market with cross-chain tracing capabilities — the ability to follow the movement of assets as they are swapped, bridged, or laundered across different blockchains. Indirect exposure detection allows investigators to identify wallets that may not have received illicit funds directly but are connected to them through multi-hop transfers. These exposures often reveal the broader financial ecosystem surrounding a crime, uncovering laundering networks and hidden beneficiaries. TRM has expanded indirect exposure detection, which now supports 36 blockchains. This expanded coverage includes:

  • Layer 1s: Polkadot, Tezos, Algorand, XRP, Stellar, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Avalanche C-Chain, Bitcoin Cash
  • Layer 2s: Arbitrum, Base, zkSync, Linea, and more

TRM remains focused on providing support for severe and high-risk exposure categories. TRM’s multi-path routing ensures that users can still verify each cross-chain link independently.

Color-coded wallet risk in TRM Triage

Frontline investigators often need to make split-second decisions about which crypto wallets pose the greatest threat. To accelerate these decisions, we’ve introduced a new color-coded risk level interface in TRM Triage. Now, when you scan a wallet address or crypto artifact, you’ll see at-a-glance risk designations that highlight its threat level:

  • 🟢 Low — Minimal suspicious activity
  • 🟡 Medium — Moderate indicators of risk
  • 🔴 High — Strong ties to illicit activity or sanctions
  • ⚪ Unknown — New or unprofiled address requiring further analysis

This visual update enables frontline officers to prioritize cases more efficiently by providing immediate visibility into high-risk wallets at a glance.

Seed Analysis: More tools for crypto asset recovery

Seed Analysis enables rapid, high-confidence identification of associated wallets and balances — empowering agents, investigators, and officers to act decisively to seize crypto. TRM has seen law enforcement adopt Seed Analysis at rapid speed, pinpoint high-priority addresses with a balance, and move quickly to secure funds before they are cashed out. Seed Analysis now supports more key types, wallet formats, and advanced recovery techniques, enabling investigators to derive insights from even fragmented or nonstandard data. New capabilities include:

  • Taproot (BIP86) and SLIP39 support
  • Custom derivation paths for Atomic Wallet (Ethereum and TRON)
  • Solflare burner address detection
  • Partial seed recovery (up to one missing word in 11- or 23-word phrases)
  • WIF, HEX32, HEX64, and xprv private key input
  • Bulk CSV upload for multi-device triage

Seed Analysis remains the only solution that scans billions of addresses across 20+ blockchains to surface matches — increasing the likelihood of recovery from limited artifacts.

New TRM Academy courses for investigators and analysts

We’ve added two new courses to TRM Academy, built specifically for crypto investigators and intelligence professionals:

  • Investigating TRON — led by Nick Furneaux, this course explores investigative tradecraft within the TRON ecosystem
  • Considerations for Privacy Tokens & Protocols — a deep dive into Monero, Tornado Cash, and other privacy-preserving technologies

Both courses are available now and designed to build foundational and advanced skills for operational teams.
